When Friends of the River Medway started, around 12% of rivers in the UK were considered to have a ‘good’ ecological status. In 2024? None of them. In fact, citizen science suggests that 75% of rivers in the UK have a poor ecological status. Considering that rivers are our lifeline, transporting water and nutrients for all life on earth, this is a reality that acts as a threat to us all.

On the 3rd November, tens of thousands of people will be flooding the streets of London with a clear message: we must restore our beloved waterways to good health, for the benefit of all beings.

River Action has organised a coalition of river groups and environmentalists that wish to put their love into action. Through marching the streets of London, we intend to emphasise the urgency to create change and inspire the government to take action to give the rivers and waterways the healing they deserve.

We are organising a local group of river-lovers to go together. As no trains are going from East Grinstead, our meeting place will be:

Three Bridges Station at 9:15am

If you’d prefer to meet us in London, it will be:

Vauxhall Station at 10:40am

Please join our WhatsApp group for updates and to organise lift shares: https://chat.whatsapp.com/L1ru8W112eo9SBiqtNMfBN.

One last very important thing: come wearing blue!!

Let’s create the ripple of change that is so needed, together.
